Multi-Agent Web UI: Codebase Improvements & Stability Initiative¶

User Story¶

As a platform maintainer, I want to stabilize the multi-agent web UI after infrastructure expansion (88 new agent configs) so that the application remains performant and reliable under scale.

Background¶

Recent improvements to the codebase added:

• Agent Infrastructure: 88 new agent definition files (discovery, modernization, design-spec, code-takeover workflows)
• Frontend Navigation: Enhanced hash routing for setup, integrations, dashboard panels with agent ID normalization
• Auth Architecture: Simplified auth flow by moving role enforcement to login (removed role-selection screen)

While these improvements expand capability, they introduced performance and stability concerns that must be addressed before production scale.

Scope¶

Phase 1: Data Layer Foundations¶

• Add MongoDB indexes for query performance
• Implement pagination (default 20, max 100) on API result sets
• Create Run schema for workflow execution tracking

Phase 2: Async Infrastructure¶

• Offload tree-sitter code parsing to Worker Thread pool
• Implement async parsing to prevent event loop blocking
• Add rate-limiting middleware (100 req/min, 10 req/min for workflows)

Phase 3: Stability & Concurrency¶

• Implement optimistic locking (version field + retry logic) for concurrent writes
• Add React ErrorBoundary components around Dashboard/Setup
• Implement request validation middleware

Phase 4: Frontend Navigation & Security¶

• Enhance routing state management
• Add XSS prevention (Content Security Policy)
• Implement RBAC enforcement with team scoping

Phase 5: Testing & Quality¶

• Write unit tests for async parsing
• Create integration tests for API pagination
• Add security tests for RBAC enforcement
• Run linting and type checking

Phase 6: Documentation & Handoff¶

• Generate API documentation
• Create database migration guide
• Prepare deployment checklist
